Talk:Exe0.2 Marie Louise Juul Søndergaard
Hi Marie Louise,
Thank you for designing a prototype that opens up a new practice-based layer of exploration and critique to your previous research.
I like the context of exploring the relationships between bodies and technology through the mundane using the language of eroticism through a kind of remote-controlled IoT sex toy. It remains a bit unclear to me to what degree the vibrators are customizable and acting in accordance with the user's voluntary consent. I think the concept of consent and contracts in the age of IoT is one of the most interesting aspects of this project. I'm not sure that I quite see how you are exploring the concepts of violence and pain through your prototype -- I think perhaps violence is getting conflated here with involuntariness. Perhaps there is an inherent element of violence in involuntariness, but I think this could be further problematized.
I realize this is a condensed medium, but I would be curious to dive deeper into the psychoanalytic notions of fluids and how this relates to your prototype. I would also be curious to see you elaborate further on the data-fication, automation, and disembodiment of sexuality. I see many overlaps here between your method of speculative design and speculative fiction, as you mention. It would be interesting to see how your prototype could generate science fiction narratives.
I will be curious to see what title you come up with :)
cheers, Molly
